They Are Eating Me Out Of My Home

Should this be happening when my kids are only four and one? Here is my conversation that occurred on the way home from work yesterday:

Owen has been running fever over 103 this week and has had an awful cough. I call to tell Beth Ann that I am rushing home so that she and Riley can get to church. I will be staying at home with Owen.

Me: Hey, sorry I am just leaving work. I was waiting on the crew for my science lab to get here. I will be there just in time for you and Riley to make it to church on time. How is Owen feeling?

Beth Ann: He is not feeling well. He woke up from his nap a bit cranky. What are you thinking for dinner?

Me: I have not even thought about it, what are you thinking?

Beth Ann: Well I cooked, but the boys got to eating and they were hungry and kept eating and well... there is nothing left.

Me: What?

Beth Ann: I made chicken nuggets and they just ate and ate. There are only 2 nuggets left. They ate everything else. Why don't you pick something up on the way home?

Me: I don't have time so I will just find something to eat at home.

OK, I realize that I have two growing boys. I just did not think that they would be eating me out of my home at this early of an age. What am I going to do when they are 10 and 14 or 15 and 19? I am going to have to get a second job just to feed these boys of ours.

I am thankful they love to eat what their mother cooks. I am thankful that they eat better than me. Watching these two grow up is going to be a blast.

By the way, I did get dinner. On the way home from church Beth Ann picked me up a little Sonic and I got it all to myself.
