Coach Carter and My Wife

Last night my wife surprised me with a date she had planned for Valentine's Day. My parents kept the boys so we could go out together. We had a great time. We laughed, talked about the future, the boys, kindergarten and what is next for us. We went to a movie and then a late dinner. She let me pick the movie (gave me some male movie choices) and the restaurant. We went to see COACH CARTER and then to Salt Grass. I am thankful for gift certificates because we had them for the movie and dinner.

I highly recommend COACH CARTER. I do want you to know the language was rough in the movie. It was very inner-city focused. If you are a sports fan, you will love it. If you love to see people overcome odds, you will love it. If you understand the importance of education, you will love it. This is a movie that teaches you about the importance we all play in the lives of the youth around us. It might be at church, at school, at home or on the court, we all can play a big role in the lives of the youth around us.

It reminded me of Coach Ken West and Coach Priutt, my high school basketball coaches. They pushed and challenged. There were days I did not like them. There were days that I thought they were not fair. Now I am able to look back and realize that they were trying to help me grow up on the court and in life. That is not an easy task. They had to be ugly at times to make a point. I know without a doubt that they loved me and wanted the best for me.

Go see COACH CARTER and see how he pushed and challenged his players. See how he did not compromise his goal for his players. See the success he brought to his team. See the emotion he poured into those young men. I think you will enjoy it and I think it will motivate you.

Last night I got to spend some great time with my wife. Together we spent some time with Coach Carter. She loved the movie too.
