The Fireballs

They have purple jerseys. They have fun. They have short attention spans. They try. They are the Fireballs of the Benbrook Youth Baseball Association. There are ten five-year-old players on our T-ball team. We had our first game this past Saturday. It was an offensive battle and ended in a 15-15 tie.

Riley wanted to play T-ball this year. We signed up, went into the draft and received notice of our first practice. We showed up excited about learning and playing. The commissioner of the league showed up and announced to the parent group that no one signed up to coach this team. After we sat there for a moment waiting for someone to step up and coach, another father and I said we will take care of it. Not what I expected and not really what I wanted to do. We had a practice and a half and then went out for the first game. Luckily we did not embarrass ourselves. We had fun and the players had a great time. I am going to coach this year. Another dad or two has stepped up to help so we are coaching by committee. Pray for us.

The boys decided on Fireballs as our name. Tigers was taken. Alligators was taken off ballot. Riley was excited to put on the purple baseball socks, purple jersey and hat, and his new cleats. Saturdays will be a little different for the next couple of months. Fun times.

Go Fireballs!
