Freshmen Follies and Abilene

We made a quick trip to Abilene this weekend. We went to watch Freshmen Follies. Our nephew was Co-chair for the show as well as being in two different acts. The show was incredible. Just like my Freshmen Follies in 1988, the students still rag on the rules at ACU and the price of tuition. The technology from 1988 to 2006 is quite different. Our show was pretty simple. The excitement of a group of young kids has not changed. They looked like they had fun just like we did. They just look a lot younger now.

Driving around Abilene always proves to be fun for us. Eating at Harold's, seeing where we used to live, running into former roommates all prove to put smiles on our faces. I even took my boys up to room 207 in Mabee dorm to show them where I used to live. The door was open so I got to see the room and talk with the guys that live there now. They thought I was really old. The rooms seemed much bigger in 1988.

Oh, the memories.

Ah Freshman Follies - where everyone gets to flirt AND learn the box step! Hope you sent a good thought toward room 201. Those were indeed the days.

Can't believe that your nephew is a freshman at ACU! Wow! I really feel old now. Thanks for the little skip down memeory lane though!

was Larry Killian still living up there in Maybee dorm? Did he try to jump out of the window? Did you see "dingleberry man"? Were you helped by "Helper"? Did you happen to see "Yahweh" riding his bike? Did Marna Taylor sing a solo? Did Brent McCall wear a grass skirt and sing Kokomo? Did you hear Reg Cox talking all the way on the other side of campus? Did Jack Boyd stand back from the podium to wait for all of chapel to be quiet? Did you race grocery carts naked down Westheimer? Did you see any of your brothers like Jody, Alan or Andrew? Did you do the goodnight dance?

    Probably not.
