HONEYMOON WITH MY BROTHER

I just finished a book by Franz Wisner called HONEYMOON WITH MY BROTHER. It is a memoir of a two year experience that Franz and his brother Kurt enjoyed together.

The book started with Franz being left at the altar. Family and friends from all over the country were in route to his wedding when his fiancee said she could not go through with the marriage. He was devastated and with the help of his brother and friends, they had a party when the wedding was to take place.

Franz returned to his high-powered political job to find out that he was being demoted. Once again being crushed, he decided it was time for something different in his life. He and his brother, Kurt, decided to sell off their homes and belongings, quit their jobs and travel the world for a year. The honeymoon was already scheduled and paid for, so they took advantage of the opportunity and began their journey.

The story chronicled their travels, experiences, relationships, memories growing up and their opportunity to connect like they never had before as brothers.

It was an excellent lesson in strengthening relationships with family members. The discovery of a world much different than we experience each day was refreshing and intriguing. Their journey took a negative situation and completely changed it to have a positive influence on their lives.

Having two boys, I could not help but think about their relationship as I read. If you have children, read the book. If you have siblings, read the book.

About a year ago I read a similar book by Nicholas Sparks (he writes all the emotional love stories like THE NOTEBOOK). THREE WEEKS WITH MY BROTHER was a journey of their trip around the world. The Sparks brothers reminisced about their times growing up together. This trip allowed them to connect in powerful ways.

In both books truths were realized and stories of love and growth were told. I would recommend both books to add to your lists.
