Why is it so hard? and a prayer

Why is parenting so hard? Maybe it is not for you, if so please comment and tell me why. First there is worrying about your own children and then there is worrying about what other people say about your child. That is hard. I know most of us want to do the best we can. It is not a perfect science.

Father, I pray for my boys right now. I pray you protect them. I pray that you guide Beth Ann and I to raise them the way You want. Please give us wisdom and patience. Please protect us from worrying about what other's might think and to focus on Your will. I pray that you give Riley the abilities to continue to do well at school. Help him continue to learn and to have a love for learning. Thank you for his spirit and continue to bless his strengths. Please help Owen as he continues to quickly broaden his communication. Help the boys to continue to love each other. They are both different and gifts from You, thank you. Help them learn right from wrong and to make good choices. Please put people in their paths that will offer them grace when they mess up. Thank you for their teachers, grandparents and friends. Help them enhance and foster those relationships. Help them to keep their focus on understanding and developing a relationship with You. Let them know that their parents love them. Thank you for the blessing of my two red-headed boys.

Some days are easy and some hard. Please say a prayer for my kids and BA and I. Leave a comment and I will say a prayer for you and your family.

I don't know about your specific concerns over your boys right now, but I will say a prayer for all of you. Reading your blog today, and your prayer, sounds almost like something I have written, or could write, myself about my 2 sweet girls.

I linked over from BST's blog awhile back and have enjoyed reading your blog since then. I didn't really know you, other than by name, but I did know Beth Ann a little.

As a former teacher, I enjoy reading from your perspective of being a principal. As the mother of a Kindergartener, I enjoy reading from your perspective of your oldest being at that stage of his life as well.

We went through many discussions and lists and a couple of tours & observations before deciding to place our child in a public school this year. I grew up attending Christian school (17 years!) so this was a bit of a deviation from the norm for me, but based on what our town has to offer, we chose the public. So far, so good. If we were in a different town with different options, we may have chosen the other.

As a former elementary school teacher, I was interested in the picture of Riley's classroom that you posted. It looked like a great Kindergarten classroom! When we were looking at schools for Gracie (my oldest) I was looking for an atmosphere that would promote critical thinking and that would allow for many hands-on & interactive activities, along with cooperative learning. Our public school offered that in a big way while the private school we toured offered more of a structured, in my opinion rigid, atmosphere. Individual desks in rows (for Kindergarten!) No centers at all. No colorful carpet for circle time. I'm all for structure, and Gracie's teacher has a good grasp on the discipline & structure of her class, but the particular private school we toured was too structured. The school where you work, based on the picture I saw, looks like it has the kind of educational atmosphere I like.

I enjoyed your post about Christian schools being mission fields as well. You're right about that. I know not all of the people I went to school with for 17 years were Christians.

Anyway, I will say a prayer for all of you. We'd appreciate any prayers for Gracie, Katie (our 20 month old) and Chris & I. Parenting is tough.

I should add that we lso said many prayers before making the decision about where Gracie would go to school.

Jacinda, thank you for the prayers. it is a blessing to know that there are people out there besides Beth Ann and I that are praying for Riley and Owen. I have prayed for your girls and your family. Kindergarten is fun. I am sure you have your oldest in a great place. Riley's class and school is great. We set up a great learning environment. It is hands-on, learner centered, warm and fun. He is learning so much and has a teacher that loves him so much. We are blessed. Thank you again.

    Father--Abba, Father,
Youa re so good to us. You lavish us with your love and grace and presence through the power of the Holy Spirit. I pray that very real presence for Riley and Owen. I pray that you go before and behind them. Cover them with your wings. Surround them with your love. Let them hear your still small voice calling out to thema nd guiding them.

Father, continue to rain down wisdom and discernment on Craig and BA. How blessed they are by their sons! And how blessed are those boys by their loving and devoted parents! Comfort and remind Craig and BA of yur loving care and providence in their lives.

    For YOUR name's sake.

    Craig,

I wish we could relate, but our kids are all perfect.
    :)

This is a daily struggle for us...our 2-year old might just as well think his name is "STOP IT TIMOTHY" or "NO TIMOTHY!" If there's not one that needs something, there's two more that do.

I find myself singing "Had it not been the Lord who was on our side...we would have been swallowed up alive!" Honestly, I worry so much, especially about Timothy...do other parents think our sweet precious boy is the neighborhood bully?! One minute he's a tender heart, the next he's poking someone in the eye.

We're with you on this one....when you pray for us, pray for:
    Tori (7-years)
    Timothy (2)
    Jonathan (10 months)
    Lael (3 months) - adopting!

    - Kelly and Randy
