Why Christian Education #1

This will be the first post in a once-in-a-while series that I will do on Christian education.

Last week Riley had to miss two days of school. He was heart-broken that he could not go. A fever will keep you out of school, or it should, so that others do not get sick as well. When we told him that he could not go, he cried very hard. He really wanted to be there. He loves kindergarten. He loves being at school. We are blessed by that and extremely thankful.

After he missed the second day, his teacher asked if she could bring his work by the house and visit for a bit. Needless to say, Riley was so excited that his teacher was coming over to his house. He was thrilled to show me the important work that he had to do that had been dropped off.

His teacher had been at our home for a few minutes before I got home from work that day. As she was leaving we all walked her outside. Riley spent a few minutes talking with her as she sat in her car. I will not forget the look in his eyes when she was backing out of the driveway and leaving. He was so happy. He was so thankful that his teacher came to his house to see him. You could see the love he had for her by the look in his eyes.

It made me thank for Mrs. Rogers. It made me thankful for Christian education. There may be a lot of teachers from public or private schools that would have done what she did. When you combine her visit, what it meant to Riley and the love they share for each other, it is clear to me that Riley could not receive that love from another school or teacher.

That short moment reemphasized the importance of Christian education to me and my family. There are many other reasons. I look forward to sharing those with you in the future.

I'm looking forward to this series. As this is a question my husband and I talk about all the time. I'm interested to see your thoughts and perspective on the topic, since you are an educator...and a princpal at that. =)
