Food #2
Today's topic: candy. We at the Fisher household feel like candy is its own food group. Candy can make a break a day, a movie, a drive or a mood. Some favorites:
Craig:
I remember as I was growing up loving candy cigarettes. There were two kinds. One was the candy stick kind and the other was gum that came with a wrapper around it. You could puff once on the gum kind and a cloud of white sugar would come out like smoke. I remember sitting on the porch of my house with a candy cigarette in my mouth thinking I was so cool.
I also loved Willy Wonka Gobstoppers. I entered a Willy Wonka coloring contest as a child and won first place in the national contest. I won a box of 80 Willy Wonka candy bars. Grand Prize was a trip to Disneyworld. I am still bitter about not winning the Grand Prize.
What about the candy counter at Sears? I loved picking out something there.
My grandmother would eat banana Laffy taffy and I grew to love that with her. She also would have the caramels with the white nougat center that was fun to eat.
I loved the Marathon candy bar growing up. It was a thin chocolate covered caramel chewy thing. It was great. I have not seen one for many years.
When I was introduced to Big League Chew, I thought it was the greatest invention.
Boxes of Lemonheads and Boston Baked Beans bring back great memories for me as well.
I loving with just about anything with peanut butter. A fresh Reese's Peanut Butter Cup is excellent. I am picky about the peanut butter though. It has to be fresh. If it has been sitting on the shelf too long then the peanut butter loses its flavor and becomes too dry.
Chewy Spree will I am driving or at a movie. The big chewy Sweettarts are also a great driving snack.
Peanut Butter M&M's!
Beth Ann:
I was born into my candy love. My parents love candy and passed it right on to me. I remember going to the candy counter at Sears (with my dad) or Macy's (with my mom) and picking out a "dollar 's worth" of something. Later my mom and I would go to Mr. Bulky's which was the candy store at our mall and getting a little bag of something to munch on while we shopped. I'm so glad I married someone who shares this love. I love it when he surprises me with one of my favorites. He is good at stocking the console of the car when going on road trips, to the movies or to church!
personal favorites:
1. Twizzlers, original (once again here freshness is important)
2. I can always tell I am at a home of a family member or a true friend when there is a large jar of Hot Tamales in the kitchen cabinet.
3. Junior Mints
4. large, chewy Sweettarts
5. M&M's, original
6. chocolate covered raisins (Goobers)
Remember nik'l'nip and dots on paper? Good stuff! I just asked Riley for his input and he said, "Uh, chocolate!" I think that about covers it for most people!
