Reconnecting with an old friend

About a month ago I did some searching for a friend I grew up with when I was in junior high and high school. I was downloading music to my iPod and came across one of his CDs that I have so I decided to see if I could find him. Through the help of Google I was able to locate him and a couple of web sites that he has.

Robert Gotcher and I grew up living a few houses down from each other in North Richland Hills. We attended Smithfield Junior High and Richland High School together. Robert is a year older than me but we did attend school together for numerous years. Robert was always so nice to me. We hung out a lot for many years. I remember listening to Weird Al Yankovic and Huey Lewis and the News together. I remember playing lots of games with Robert and spending countless hours at each other's houses. I remember our days of breakdancing (yes, it was cool in the 80's). We even made up a routine to a Herbie Hancock classic. Robert would perform at the malls but he and I kept our routine for our block. We were pretty good or at least I though we were.

I found Robert's MySpace page and his band's website. Robert has been involved in music since I knew him. Robert is now a Christian music writer, producer and performer. I was able to locate his email address and we traded some messages back and forth. Last month we went to Christ Fellowship on a Sunday morning because Robert was leading worship that day. We saw some other friends that we knew at the church and had a blessed time. After church was over I found Robert to say hello. It was one of those funny moments where after a few seconds he figured out who I was. My family and Robert's family went to have lunch together that day. It was such a blessing to spend time with his precious family and to learn how God had been working in their lives. Robert is truly a servant of the Lord.

This past Friday night I went with one of my best friends, Stephen Bailey, to the Friday Nite Coffee Haus at RHCC. Robert was the main performer of the evening. Robert did an excellent job of sharing his heart, his gift and God's word in a relaxed setting. He is a such a talented musician. I wanted Robert and Stephen to meet as they are both musicians and could potentially collaborate in the future.

Go and check out the Robert Gotcher Band Website: www.robertgotcherband.com
When you have a chance go and hear his band play, you will be blessed.
