T-ball

The Fireballs had a double-header Saturday. Two games with 5 -year-olds when it is 95 degrees is quite a challenge. It is difficult for the players to be focused on the games. They get to the point that it is more fun to play in the dirt, wave at the fans or watch the birds fly in the air. It is also a challenge on the coach to keep a focus as well. How many times and how many ways can you try to keep the group motivated?

I reached the point that I felt that all I was doing was yelling and trying to get the players to run the bases. After trying to motivate Riley and me guessing if I had motivated a little too hard, I was surprised by a comment from him. He had reached first base on a hit and I was trying to get him to run fast. He reached the base safely and I congratulated him and told him about running to second. He turned and said, "Dad, you are the best baseball coach I have ever had". (I do want to remind you that I am the only coach he has had). My patience was near it's end but Riley's heartfelt encouragement went a long way. The child encouraged the father.

I hope I can encourage God today like Riley encouraged me. Thank you Riley for this little lesson.

Go Fireballs! One more double-header!

    Fish-
You are a blessed man. Amazing family, amazing friends (ahem), a job where you are building the Kingdom, etc. I think your willingness to encourage and be encouraged is all a part of that. I'm so blessed and proud to be your friend.
