Mrs. Knight
Yesterday I spoke with someone from my childhood. Mrs. Knight, my first grade teacher, and I had a conversation yesterday on the phone. I have so many fond memories from my elementary years at Harding Academy in Memphis, Tennessee. I had so many people around me that cared and loved me. Mrs. Knight was definitely one of those people. First grade is such an important year in the educational journey and I was lucky enough to have had her as a teacher and to still remember the positives of my time in her class.
I called her yesterday because I noticed on Harding's website that Mrs. Knight is a principal. It was exciting to share with her about my family. It was a blessing to hear the excitement in her voice as I told her I was a principal as well. We were able to speak colleague to colleague for a few minutes. It hit me afterwards how crazy that was... that I was speaking with my first grade teacher about both of us in the educational field. Harding Academy helped set a great foundation for me. I continue to learn how important teachers are to their students and how their influence can last a lifetime. Many teachers impacted my life in huge ways and for that I am thankful.
Mrs. Zettergren, Mrs. Knight, Mrs. Duke and Mrs. Highers were exceptional leaders and teachers in my life. Those women are a testament to how vital teachers are to their students, especially in a Christian school. Thank you to all of them.
Do you have a teacher that played a major role in your life? Try to find them and share with them the impact they had on you. I think that was a blessing yesterday to Mrs. Knight and I know it was a blessing for me.

Public--Coach Tiner. He was a very passionate man--especially about Christ. Even though it was in a public school, he brought up topics in our class for our "Friday Discussion" that allowed people to ask questions and talk openly. He is a great man.
Private Christian--David Lewis. David's classes were so foramtive for me. AND--his personal witness was life-changing. Also Jeannette Lipford. There's no way to describe the impact they've both had on me.

Public - Leggs Branch, second grade teacher. She had incredible fake fingernails, wore blond wigs and drove a green Thunderbird. I didn't know if what I was feeling was fear or attraction. Now that's edu-ma-cation!
Private - Maryanne Felps, Senior English. She challenged me to read, write and think. She would not accept less than my best.
